Westfalia Fruit has launched the sale of laser-marked mangoes. The initiative, driven by the company's branches in the Netherlands, eliminates the need to apply individual plastic stickers.

Following extensive testing, the specially lasered mangoes have now been launched in the European customer business. The laser project was realised on the joint basis of Westfalia's capacities in the Netherlands and Germany and ensures that the quality and shelf life of the fruit is maintained during lasering. The feedback from customers has been extremely positive, and It is planned to expand the product range throughout Europe in the near future.

„Introducing the laser marking, which is almost like an etched tattoo on the mango, was an exciting project. Not only does it make the fruit stand out in the shop, but it also potentially saves up to 10 million plastic stickers a year. What we can laser onto the fruit is limited only by our imagination and the needs of the customer. Currently, this includes the origin of the fruit, customer branding and product reference.“

Mathijs Benard, who has been Head of Operations Central Europe at Westfalia Fruit in the Netherlands since March 2024.
