Lidl introduces digital deposit vouchers throughout Germany

From the beginning of August, Lidl customers throughout Germany will be able to save and redeem their deposit amounts via the Lidl Plus app. This makes Lidl the first food retailer in Germany to introduce the digital receipt in all of its shops.

By dispensing with paper vouchers, the discounter in Germany wants to make a contribution to environmental protection. In addition, all available and already redeemed vouchers can be viewed at any time in the Lidl Plus app. Automatic storage enables better control and eliminates the need to keep paper receipts. Lost or forgotten vouchers are now history. When customers scan their Lidl Plus card at the checkout, the voucher is automatically redeemed unless it has been deactivated manually beforehand.

All customers have The option of choosing the paper receipt is still available. Both digital and printed vouchers can be redeemed at any shop in Germany.

Lidl successfully trialled the digital deposit receipt in some shops prior to the national launch. A paperless receipt variant, the digital receipt, has been available to Lidl Plus users since 2019.
