Amazon presents its new packaging solution: Paper-padded envelopes that are lighter and stronger than conventional cardboard packaging. These envelopes are made of 100 per cent paper, are fully recyclable and are now also being launched in Germany.
Amazon has developed a new shipping packaging together with partners that lighter, more stable and more environmentally friendly is. The paper-padded envelopes are made of a specially developed lightweight paper with a corrugated inner lining that provides shock absorption. This packaging is 100 per cent recyclable and can be disposed of with household waste.
„Our challenge was to develop a packaging solution that is lightweight, flexible and fully recyclable without compromising on protection.“
Thais Blumer, European Head of Sustainable Packaging at Amazon
The new packaging saves an average of 44 grams of material per consignment and is more flexible than cartons of the same size. This means that the envelopes can be filled more efficiently and at the same time ensure safe transport as the products remain firmly in place. Pedro Cuesta, Packaging Engineer at Mondi, explains: „Corrugated cardboard padding was the best solution for plastic-free, sustainable shipping packaging.“
The envelopes are available in three sizes and are suitable for various items such as skincare products, food supplements or household items. More than 50 per cent of European Amazon shipments are already delivered in recyclable shipping packaging.
