Lipton Ice Tea in carton from SIG

In the Netherlands, Lipton Ice Tea is now available in carton packaging from SIG made from Signature Full Barrier packaging material.

From May 2022, Lipton Ice Tea will be available in the Netherlands in new carton packaging. The Unilever brand is switching to aseptic carton packaging from SIG, the Signature Full Barrier packaging material. This is how the company wants to achieve its sustainability goals. 

In the Netherlands Lipton Ice Tea on aseptic carton packs from SIG with Signature Full Barrier packaging material, in which the packaging materials used are Polymers fully linked to certified, forest-based, renewable materials via a mass balance system stand. This decision by the Unilever brand is one step and contributes to Unilever's overall sustainability goal of becoming fully net-zero by 2039. The switch to Signature Full Barrier is a step in Lipton's journey to contribute to the circular economy and become a fully circular brand

Lipton has relied on SIG's aseptic carton packs in the Netherlands for many years and will use SIG carton packs with Signature Full Barrier packaging material for its Lipton iced tea from May 2022. The company chose combifitMagnum 1,500 ml with Signature Full Barrier. This packaging reduces the CO2-footprint compared to a standard pack, as fossil-based polymers are replaced by mass-balanced, forest-based polymers made from tall oil - a by-product of paper production.

All three of the packaging's main raw materials come from Mass balance systems from certified, responsible sourcesCartonboard from FSC-certified forests and other controlled sources; the renewable, forest-based polymers are ISCC PLUS certified; the thin aluminium layer that protects the product from light and oxygen is certified by ASI (Aluminium Stewardship Initiative). With around 20 million packs sold per year, this important next step supports the brand's strong sustainability ambitions, which will also help to fulfil the Requirements and expectations of Dutch retailers and consumers does justice to it.
