Liveo Research expands pharmaceutical business

Liveo Research continues to expand its pharmaceutical business. The Swiss company announces a capacity expansion of 20,000 tonnes for coated barrier films at its German site in Bötzingen.

Liveo Research, a manufacturer of packaging and films, is further expanding its pharmaceutical business. The Swiss company announces a capacity expansion of 20,000 tonnes for coated barrier films at its German site in Bötzingen.

According to the company, the aim of the investment is to strengthen its market position. The high-performance barrier films are used in the pharmaceutical industry for Blister packs used. With three production lines in Germany and Singapore, Liveo Research aims to offer its customers improved security of supply.

The coating technology creates products with Barrier properties against moisture and oxygen. This has become increasingly important for the application of more sensitive medicines in hot and humid regions. The new high-performance line is expected to go into operation in the third quarter of 2021. This is expected to increase the total capacity to over 50,000 tonnes.

Liveo Research expands

The investment also includes a new building. According to the company, this meets the highest standards of hygiene in the pharmaceutical industry. A new cutting machine has already been in operation since June. The addition of two more cutting machines should offer even more flexibility and shorten lead times.

The investment was made by the Liveo shareholder Lindsay Goldberg supported. Thomas Unger, Partner at Lindsay Goldberg Vogel and Chairman of Liveo Research, said: „When we acquired Liveo Research in November 2019, we saw this investment as an important step in our strategy for the company to significantly expand its pharmaceutical business. We are therefore delighted to have been able to facilitate this significant investment for Liveo Research.“
