Small packages securely folded in corrugated cardboard

BVS Packaging Systems will be presenting the new „WavePack“ packaging system at Motek. Corrugated cardboard sheets are folded around a package by a special machine. The result is a stable, secure folding box for a wide variety of small-format products.

BVS Packaging Systems will be presenting the new „WavePack“ packaging system at Motek. Corrugated cardboard sheets are folded around a package by a special machine. The result is a stable, secure folding box for a wide variety of small-format products.

The brand new product „WaveWrap“ is making its first trade fair appearance at Motek. This is a Desktop unit, which, in conjunction with special Corrugated cardboard sheets provides a resource-saving, volume-saving packaging solution. It is designed for small-format, differently shaped or non-rigid products. As a „WaveWrap“ sales partner, BVS-Verpackungs-Systeme is certain that very different industries will benefit from it. From Electronic components about Medical devices and Textiles up to Luxury articles and other consumer goods can be packaged in a space- and weight-saving manner, which previously had to be shipped in cost-intensive boxes with a lot of superfluous filling material.

„It was important to us to design a solution that pays for itself quickly, even for small quantities,“ says Livio Marchioni, Managing Director of WaveWrap manufacturer WavePack GmbH and co-founder of BVS-Verpackungs-Systeme. The operating principle is simple and already pays off for companies that send 25 small parcels per day. The Packaging volume decrease by up to 60 per cent.

Corrugated cardboard sheets are loaded manually and folded by machine

The users use standardised corrugated cardboard sheets in three sizes up to a maximum of 530 x 400 millimetres. On the packaging sheets they place the Packaged goods which is reliably held in place by a special adhesive coating, as BVS Sales Manager Stefan Hauser explains. The sheet is then inserted into the „WaveWrap“ machine, folded and securely sealed with light pressure. The result is packaging with a maximum size of 240 x 200 millimetres and a height of 40 millimetres. The recipients of the consignment open it using a perforation opening. A „WaveWrap“ parcel is easy to reseal thanks to the special adhesive coating on the cardboard.

The „WaveWrap“ system is offered as a Rental model. This solution is the most profitable for small customers in particular, explains Stefan Hauser. It has also been successfully used for other products. The corrugated cardboard sheets are also supplied by BVS-Verpackungs-Systeme - at the customer's request by Stray pressure customised. However, Hauser knows from practical experience that many customers do not want any packaging customisation at all. Luxury goods or expensive electrical components in particular would like to be sent in inconspicuous packaging.

Several prototypes already successfully in use with BVS customers

Unusual for a new product: Stefan Hauser can already report a lot of encouraging customer feedback. This is because the now patented „WaveWrap“ was developed in close dialogue with future users. During the two-year development phase, various prototypes were tested by BVS customers.

Hauser is certain that Motek will further increase the already high demand for „WaveWrap“. In years when FachPack does not take place, packaging and logistics customers are particularly attracted to the Stuttgart trade fair. „WaveWrap“ is coming at exactly the right time, says Hauser: „Shipping volumes are increasing in the logistics sector and weight savings are becoming increasingly important.“ It is foreseeable that the major transport service providers will switch from their previous flat rates to actual volumes shipped.
