The „Made for Recycling“ seal of quality celebrates its anniversary

Environmental services provider Interseroh is celebrating its anniversary: its „Made for Recycling“ seal of approval was launched in June 2018. Interseroh is planning to expand its offering with a new dual system in 2022.

Environmental services provider Interseroh is celebrating its anniversary: its „Made for Recycling“ seal of approval was launched in June 2018. Interseroh is planning to expand its offering in 2022 with a new dual system and a new concept.

Since the launch in June 2018, the recycling specialists at Interseroh around 1,600 analyses carried out. „The packaging design of the future is a circular design that focusses on securing raw materials and protecting the climate from the outset,“ says Markus Müller-Drexel, Managing Director of Interseroh Dienstleistungs GmbH. „The success of ‘Made for Recycling“ shows that we are heading in the right direction: We support our customers on the path to greater sustainability and jointly develop solutions for a functioning circular economy."

„Made for Recycling“: standard for recyclable packaging

The „Made for Recycling“ standard is based on a scientific assessment methodology developed by Interseroh together with the Bifa Environmental Institute and developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV was confirmed.

During the analysis, each individual packaging sample is closely scrutinised at Interseroh's competence centre for plastics recycling in Maribor, Slovenia, and checked for materials and mechanical sortability, for example. The laboratory received international accreditation (ISO/IEC 17025:2017) in March 2020 and is therefore, according to Interseroh, the only recognised research facility in the EU that specialises in the Specialising in the development and analysis of recycled plastics has.

If the test is successful, the packaging may be used from at least 18 out of 20 points bear the „Made for Recycling“ seal. The certificate is valid for two years, after which recertification is required. The first recertifications have already taken place at Interseroh.

The new dual system, which is scheduled to start operations at the beginning of 2022, stands for the complete material cycle in the packaging sector.
