In 2013, company founders Anne and Stefan Lemcke from Hamburg took the plunge with their flavour manufacturer Ankerkraut and launched their own brand. The concept: high-quality spices in an attractive cork jar. A new labelling machine from Gernep now ensures precise labelling of the jars.
The start-up Ankerkraut has now become a successful grown-up with sales in the mid double-digit million range. The immense Demand is reflected not only in a constantly growing range of products, but also in higher production figures. noticeable. It was therefore time to modernise the machinery in 2022. Ankerkraut's spices with illustrious product names such as Pull That Piggy, Teufelskerl or Bang Boom Bang are not only characterised by their quality and flavour, but also by their unusual designs and packaging. The Cork glass with a sealing flap over the front and back label is their trademark. In order to offer consumers a perfectly centred seal in future, the flavour manufacturer opted for a new labelling machine from the Bavarian manufacturer Gernep.
Customised all-rounder

A Gernep Soluta 9-720 3SK SD with three self-adhesive dispensers was specially customised to the company's requirements. The Allrounder machine processes both the cork jars and the PET spreaders, in which mainly dry marinades - the so-called BBQ rubs - are filled. The rubs are mixed with Front and back label, the glasses also have a sealing tab label on the cork stopper. Soluta also processes promotional stickers for special marketing campaigns.
The visual appearance of the Ankerkraut cork jar was a particular focus during the development of the labelling machine and was to be further optimised. The aim was to Seal tab label perfectly centred to the front and back label of the cork jar. Constructed for this Gladlyp a customised alignment, which is based on embossing on the glasses. Two infeed stars were provided to centre the sealing flaps. The first star is used for alignment and the following star is used to apply the sealing label from above onto the container closure. The containers are then fixed in place using a clamping mechanism and transferred to the machine's labelling carousel. There a Centring tulip placed on the cork jar from above and firmly clamped for precise transfer of the front and back labels.
Gernep worked together with cab on the development of the labellers. All Labels are therefore applied with the IXOR self-adhesive units from cab. At Ankerkraut, they label up to 8,000 containers per hour in continuous operation and fully automatically. A light barrier detects each container, whereupon the labelling process starts. For quality assurance and traceability, variable data, such as shelf life and batch identification, is printed directly onto the back labels of the Ankerkraut products in the labelling machine.
