The cutting-die manufacturer Marbach has been using a special technology to apply Braille dots to packaging at the right height since 2004. The marbabraille technology has been successfully used by Marbach customers in Europe for many years and has proven itself thousands of times over. Countries outside of Europe are currently becoming increasingly interested in the topic of Braille on packaging.
The application of Braille on packaging is not an easy topic. This is because there are various requirements for a Braille embossing: For an optically optimised result, the Characterisation of Braille dots be weak so that the cardboard material does not tear. The greater the strength, the greater the risk of the cardboard ceiling tearing open. For blind people, on the other hand, a Minimum height of the Braille dots so that they can easily feel the lettering with their fingers. Consequently, the application of embossing dots to packaging always represents a Balancing act between an appealing visual result and good readability for blind people.
Bernhard Reisser, Sales Manager at Marbach: „In recent months, our branches outside Europe have also been receiving an increasing number of enquiries. In South America, the topic of Braille is currently very much in the spotlight. As was the case for us in 2004, when an EU directive was issued requiring almost all pharmaceutical packaging to be labelled with Braille. At that time, we developed our special marbabraille-elasto technology with compressive elastic embossing. With this technology, Braille dots can be applied in such a way that they can be easily felt by blind people and yet the embossing does not leave any visible cracks on the packaging. In other words, the optimum solution for applying Braille dots to packaging.“
The emergence of the topic Braille in other countries Braille embossing is becoming very topical again. Marbach is prepared for the additional demand and will offer its special Braille solutions to its customers worldwide.
