Mars Wrigley UK has taken the next step on the road to 100 per cent reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging: its Maltesers packaging - a familiar brand on shop shelves since 1930 - will no longer be lined with black PE film.

The company has now replaced the previous multi-layer carton with a PE film coating with a folding carton made of dispersion-coated barrier board from Metsä Board. According to the company, this will reduce its annual plastic consumption by up to 82 tonnes.

The material is made from virgin fibres, 100% of which can be traced back to sustainably managed northern European forests.
