The new EU nutritional value regulation obliges winegrowers to disclose the nutritional values and ingredients of their products. Marzek Etiketten+Packaging, together with its cooperation partner Bottlebooks, has established a solution that allows this information to be integrated into the production of wine labels in a legally compliant, simple and time-saving manner.
The new EU regulation stipulates that all from 8 December 2023 produced wines, sparkling wines and aromatised wines must be labelled with nutritional values and lists of ingredients. This information may also be provided via QR code for the first time in the food industry. This means that the information can be made accessible via so-called e-labels in order to fulfil the legal requirements of the nutritional value regulation. Another major advantage of e-labels is that the data is displayed in the language set on the mobile phone. This saves wine exporters from having to translate the nutritional value tables.
Marzek Etiketten+Packaging, Austria's market leader in wine labelling, has now developed an extremely simple and practical solution for this. Bottlebooks, the only Provider of global product data management systems specifically for the wine and beverage industry, developed. The QR code is created by Marzek Etiketten+Packaging during the production of the wine labels and produced in one step. Every QR code is also a GS1 Digital Link, which is used to make products web-enabled and contains the GTIN (short for Global Trade Item Number) for globally unique identification. Producers then receive a link from Marzek that they can use to easily and legally complete the information in the Bottlebooks e-label.
Premium labels and smart e-labels from a single source
Winegrowers thus receive everything from a single source and only have to specify the nutritional values and ingredients of their products themselves - and this completely from a single source. without time pressure, even if the bottles have already been filled and the labels produced. This makes it easy to update the data at any time, even at a later date.
„We are delighted that our cooperation with Bottlebooks enables us to offer our winemakers an extremely simple solution for implementing the new EU nutritional value regulation in a timely and legally compliant manner. Our customers now have the option of simply having the QR code created and produced during the next label production run. They can then enter the relevant ingredient and nutritional information at their leisure.“
Dr Johannes Michael Wareka, 4th generation of the owner family of Marzek Etiketten+Packaging
Bottlebooks is also enthusiastic about the collaboration with Marzek Etiketten+Packaging.

This solution gives winegrowers the certainty that they will fulfil the legal requirements now and in the future.“
