Bottlenecks and problems in the procurement of primary products and raw materials continue to pose a problem for companies. According to a survey by the ifo Institute, around 74.6 per cent of companies are suffering from this. The survey also revealed that the shortage of materials in German industry has worsened again.
At 67.3 per cent, there were still signs of the market easing in January. "The hoped-for turnaround has failed to materialise," says the head of the ifo Surveys, Klaus Wohlrabe. "The Shortage of materials thus further delays the upturn in the industry."
Material shortages have increased again in all sectors of industry. The situation remains tense, particularly in the key sectors of German industry. Thus report 89 per cent of companies in the automotive and mechanical engineering industries report delivery problems. Manufacturers of data processing devices and electrical equipment follow closely behind with around 88 per cent each. "It therefore remains difficult for the industry to convert the very good order situation into production," adds Wohlrabe.
