The global metal packaging industry will be meeting in Essen from 2 to 6 May for Metpack. More than 300 exhibitors have announced their intention to present innovations and developments. The programme for the accompanying conference has now been announced.

"We have to adapt our business and production processes to the digital natives, the young generation. And we need to utilise these new skills to hold our own in an increasingly competitive world", reads the abstract of Tim Clarke's presentation. The CEO of Enpack Europe will talk about an intelligent factory for easy open ends. This is because the way the global production and supply network works is fundamentally changing due to the ongoing automation of traditional manufacturing and industrial practices using modern smart technologies, large-scale machine-to-machine communication and the Internet of Things.

The presentation by Ian Scholey, CTO of Stolle Machinery from the USA, will also focus on technologies that increase output while saving energy and thus ensuring the competitiveness of cans. He will share his thoughts and experience, which should lead to "more good cans". In particular, efficiency gains through data analysis, driven by highly developed algorithms, are within reach.

Signs point to success

"The need to find out about innovations and further developments is greater than ever after the pandemic. Together with our exhibitors, we are looking forward to the upcoming Metpack with great anticipation. Preparations are in full swing. Assembly will begin in about two weeks. The machines from overseas manufacturers are already on their way. We have already received numerous registrations from trade visitors from all over the world. All signs point to success," says project manager Christina Kleinpaß.

The exhibitors will primarily be presenting solutions that make the production of metal packaging more resource-friendly and efficient. Less material and energy with the same or better quality - is the industry's motto. Digitalisation and automation continue to play a key role. Companies are also focusing heavily on decarbonisation and climate neutrality.
