Metsä Board will showcase its lightweight premium paperboards and service offerings at the FACHPACK 2025 trade fair in Nuremberg. The company will also be providing information about a 60 million euro investment in the Simpele plant and progress in the use of fossil-free energy.
Metsä Board, a leading European producer of fresh fibre paperboards and part of Metsä Group, will be exhibiting at FACHPACK in Nuremberg (Hall 4A, Stand 116) from 23 to 25 September 2025. The company will present its premium paperboards for folding cartons, foodservice packaging and white kraftliners, as well as complementary consulting services for the packaging industry.
One highlight at the stand is the modernisation of the Simpele plant in Finland. According to the company, 60 million euros will be invested in a new coating line there, which is scheduled to go into operation in October 2025. The upgrade is intended to improve print quality and enable the production of high-performance packaging solutions that are particularly appealing to retailers and pharmacies. Metsä Board is also planning to increase the proportion of fossil-free energy in the plant's production from the current 89 per cent to 98 per cent - an important interim step on the way to completely fossil-free production by 2030.
Sustainability and data-based decisions
According to the company, packaging materials play a crucial role in the carbon footprint of brand manufacturers, as they often count as Scope 3 emissions. At the show, Metsä Board's experts will explain how the choice of certain materials influences the performance of packaging and its environmental footprint. Third-party verified case studies from different end-use sectors will be presented to illustrate the benefits of data-driven decisions for more sustainable packaging solutions.
„Promoting sustainability and performance in packaging can only be achieved through close collaboration along the entire value chain - from the forest to the end consumer,“ says Marjo Halonen, Vice President Communications at Metsä Board. Tools such as life cycle assessments, lightweighting strategies and design partnerships are intended to help customers achieve their packaging goals.
Metsä Board focuses on lightweight, recyclable virgin fibre paperboards whose raw materials can be traced back to their origin in Nordic forests. With the combination of sustainable materials, technical modernisation and comprehensive services, the company wants to show at FACHPACK 2025 how sustainable packaging solutions can be designed.
