Metsä Board has revised its sustainability strategy for 2030: New targets included the full use of certified wood fibre, a reduction in logistics emissions and increased promotion of diversity and occupational safety.
Metsä Board has updated its strategic sustainability targets for 2030. The new and revised targets relate in particular to logistics emissions, workforce diversity and occupational safety. The aim is to further strengthen sustainable business practices and build on the progress made in recent years.
The last adjustment to the sustainability strategy was made two years ago. Since then, developments have been comprehensively monitored using various indicators. Progress already achieved includes, for example, an increase in the proportion of certified wood fibres to 92%.
Important changes and new objectives
The revised sustainability goals for 2030 include
- 100 % certified wood fibresThe previous target value of over 90 % was reportedly already reached in 2023.
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the logistics procured by Metsä Board by 30 % per tonne-kilometre compared to 2022.
- Clearer measurement of fossil raw materialsWood raw materials and purchased pulp are excluded from the calculation of fossil-free materials in order to document progress more precisely.
- Occupational safetyThe „zero accidents“ target now applies not only to the company's own employees, but also to External contractors.
- Diversity and corporate culture: Introduction of the new Metsä for All Index, which measures diversity, equality and integration.
- Increasing the proportion of women in management positions from 30 % to 35 %, at the same time as expanding the definition of management positions.
