Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection has introduced the new X3 series of x-ray inspection systems for unpackaged bulk goods on conveyor belts. The two models, X13 and X53, are designed for high detection sensitivity, reduced product waste and simplified operation and are aimed primarily at manufacturers of agricultural products, confectionery and dry foods.
The X3 series was specially developed for unpackaged, loose bulk goods on conveyor belts. Depending on the application and type of foreign object, both system models recognise a size of just 0.3 to 0.4 mm. In this way, they protect the production systems, avoid costly recalls and support the Fulfilment of global safety standards. Typical applications include dried, fresh or frozen fruit and vegetables, nuts, pulses, root vegetables such as carrots and potatoes, confectionery and cereals.
The ejection options include a mechanism with 30 blowing nozzles for precise removal of foreign bodies from smaller products and a pusher with 6 flaps for ejecting foreign bodies from larger products. If ejection devices are positioned above the product, they are less likely to be blocked or clogged by product residues. This maintains performance and ensures hygienic handling. With these targeted reject systems, manufacturers can effectively minimise product waste and protect profitability.
The intelligent design of both systems enables tool-free removal of the conveyor belt and guides for simplified cleaning routines. Added to this is an intuitive automatic product configuration that reduces the risk of operator errors. With Throughput rates of up to 5,000 kg per hour the X3 series maximises efficiency while giving manufacturers confidence in the quality and compliance of their products.
The X13 system combines powerful detection with an affordable price and thus enables the Cost-efficient entry into advanced inspection of bulk material. Equipped with HiGain+ detector technology and ContamPlus software, the system delivers razor-sharp images for the reliable detection of foreign objects such as metal, glass, calcareous bones and stones in a wide range of bulk material applications, regardless of the consistency or format of the products.
X53 dual-energy X-ray inspection system
The premium solution in this product range is the X53 system developed for manufacturers who process highly complex bulk materials and require outstanding accuracy. Building on the performance features of the X13 system, the X53 system is equipped with HiGain+ DE (Dual Energy) detector technology and AMD (Advanced Material Discrimination) Pro software for the most accurate detection of bulk materials.for the acquisition of additional analysis data equipped. Thanks to Simultaneous processing of two energy spectra the X53 system can distinguish between materials of similar density, such as bone, and the products themselves. In this way, the system also recognises low-density foreign bodies that are difficult to detect and may be overlooked by single-energy systems.
The X53 system also offers optimised traceability and automation features, including product validation routines, self-tests for performance verification and a fully interlockable inspection tunnel to ensure safe operation. These features make the system the ideal choice for high throughput or high risk environments, where maximum detection sensitivity, reliability and conformity are critical.
Hygienic, user-friendly design
Both models in the X3 series are designed for easy cleaning: The conveyor belt and guides can be removed without tools, and optional belt scrapers, water systems for belt cleaning and removable guides are available. The systems are Available with protection ratings up to IP69 and have integrated cable management. A 15.6-inch touchscreen and automatic product set-up are designed to minimise operating effort and training requirements and reduce the risk of operating errors.
For digital connectivity, Mettler-Toledo offers full connectivity to ProdX data management software, for example for real-time monitoring, automated reporting and Long-term data storage as part of traceability requirements. All of the company's X-ray inspection solutions are prepared for remote support; service contracts and spare parts packages are designed to ensure the availability of the systems and make maintenance costs predictable.
„The introduction of the X3 series is an important milestone for the inspection of bulk solids. With the X13 and X53 systems, we combine outstanding detection performance with hygienic design and versatile reject options that contribute significantly to reducing waste.“
