To ensure safe products, the pharmaceutical and food industries are placing ever-increasing hygienic demands on the machines and their components used in production. With the new pms ultrasonic sensors, microsonic has developed a sensor family based on the EHEDG guidelines and made from FDA-compliant materials that fulfil the highest hygiene requirements.

„Safe and easy cleaning of the systems is the top priority in the production of medicines and foodstuffs,“ knows Johannes Schulte, Managing Director of microsonic. Technical components that are installed in production and packaging machines must fit seamlessly and withstand harsh environmental conditions as well as intensive cleaning processes.

Compact ultrasonic sensor with sophisticated geometry in many variants

The unusual geometry of the housing fulfils an important requirement of the hygienic designsNo matter whether the sensor has to measure from top to bottom when measuring levels or horizontally when detecting objects, no housing surface has a horizontal alignment in any installation position. This ensures that cleaning liquids can always drain away completely in any installation situation.

The pms with its stainless steel housing has been designed without gaps and dirty edges and is also ideal for intensive cleaning and disinfection. Bacteria have no grip on the smooth surfaces of the sensor and cleaning agents run off completely in any installation position. The PTFE-encapsulated ultrasonic transducer protects the sensor membrane from chemically aggressive cleaning agents. Cables can be connected for Hygienic solution outside the process.

Display

With four different scanning ranges the new pms ultrasonic sensors cover a wide measuring range from 20 mm to 1.3 m. The sensors are available with a push-pull switching output and IO-Link in version 1.1 as well as with analogue output 0-10 V and 4-20 mA. This means that a very wide range of different applications can be covered.

In the standard version with D12 adapter shaft the pms sensors can be mounted in a mounting clamp or a flange screw connection. With the D12 bayonet lock, the sensors can be installed quickly and cost-effectively in established mounting systems and replaced just as quickly and without tools.
