Mondelez International is testing the Milka 100 gram Alpine Milk chocolate in limited edition paper packaging. The packaging can be disposed of in paper waste and additionally protects the chocolate with a minimal coating.
Milka is trialling new paper packaging for its chocolate bar portfolio: From week 27, a limited quantity of the 100 g Milka Alpenmilch chocolate will be available in participating Edeka stores and at Netto Marken-Discount. The packaging is made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper and a minimal coating to protect the chocolate in order to guarantee the usual quality and delicate flavour. After enjoying the chocolate, the packaging can be disposed of in the paper bin and then recycled. Consumers can find the instructions for correct recycling directly on the packaging. In this way, the packaging material can be kept in the cycle, reducing packaging waste. The measure is accompanied by explanatory communication on social media and via the Milka brand website.
„We are excited to start this test phase. Our aim is to use packaging that protects our chocolate, delights Milka fans and protects the environment. That's why we are constantly pursuing our sustainability goals with our Milka brand. With the limited edition, Milka fans can experience the familiar quality and delicate flavour of Milka Alpine milk chocolate in paper.“
Alexander Nordloh, Marketing Director Chocolate at Mondelēz International
The test is part of the agenda of Mondelēz International for more sustainable packaging solutions. This includes the optimisation of packaging (e.g. material reduction) and the use of innovative solutions in order to achieve the long-term goal of driving forward a circular economy for packaging.
„For us at Mondelēz International, it is important to understand how we can optimise our packaging in terms of sustainability. This test for Milka helps us to gain valuable insights for our internal processes and in the area of consumer acceptance. We look forward to the results.“
