Plastic on fresh food shelves is increasingly being replaced by corrugated cardboard solutions. Now Biohof has also announced that it will be offering its vine tomatoes for discounter Penny in a sustainable packaging solution in future. It was designed by Mondi.
With Coral Tray, the Bavarian organic company is realising its declared goal of replacing the previous packaging with a recyclable and plastic-free solution. This must and should not least fulfil the sustainability goals of the customer, the REWE Group, are fulfilled.
Whereas the previous packaging required around 2.5 grams of plastic film per pack, the new tray is fully recyclable and is made from renewable materials and recycled corrugated cardboard, for which an average recycling rate of over 80 % is achieved in Europe.

The one-piece corrugated board tray with integrated lid was designed by Mondi Grünburg (Austria) using lightweight F-flute. Both the fluting and the outer liner are made from 100 % recycled material, and the KraftTop inner liner ensures that the packaging is also food-safe. The new solution can be produced in six different pack sizes and offers BIOhof the option of using it for other small organic products as well.
