With the commissioning of a new containerboard machine at the Duino site in Italy, Mondi is strengthening its production capacities for sustainable packaging paper based on recycled paper.
The packaging and paper group Mondi has completed the commissioning of its new recycled containerboard machine at the Duino plant (Italy) on schedule. Once fully ramped up, the new line will produce up to 420,000 tonnes of high-quality corrugated base paper made from 100% recycled fibres every year - an important step towards deepening its own integration and strengthening supply chain security for customers, according to a statement.
Sustainable paper solutions for e-commerce and consumer goods
The new paper from Duino is intended in particular for use in lightweight, recyclable packaging solutions for the e-commerce and consumer goods sectors. Mondi is focussing on cost efficiency, functionality and environmental compatibility.
„This start-up is a great success and underlines the expertise and commitment of our team,“ comments Markus Gärtner, CEO Mondi Corrugated Packaging. „With Duino as part of our integrated value chain, we are ideally positioned to provide our customers worldwide with sustainable solutions.“
Group-wide sustainability strategy until 2030
The new investment in Italy is in line with Mondi's company-wide strategy of offering sustainable solutions along the entire value chain. With over 24,000 employees in more than 30 countries, the company says it is pursuing clear goals until 2030, including the promotion of circular solutions, climate protection measures and social responsibility. In the 2024 financial year, Mondi achieved sales of 7.4 billion euros and an adjusted EBITDA of 1.0 billion euros.
