Mondi is pressing ahead with the transformation of its Dynäs plant and is investing in a new fibre line, a continuous digester, a bark boiler, a bark dryer and a tall oil plant. The modernisation is intended to increase the efficiency, stability and sustainability of production in the long term.
According to the company, the new bark boiler will significantly reduce the use of fossil fuels, while the continuous digester improves energy and water management. According to Mondi, the new technology has also further increased the strength of the paper - including the grade that has been recognised as the strongest paper in the world according to the Swedish edition of Guinness World Records. With the higher strength, the company aims to meet increasing demands for innovative kraft paper solutions.
Progress with the new fibre line
In May 2025, the project reached an important milestone: the new fibre line was successfully commissioned as part of the annual maintenance shutdown. This also included the start of the continuous digester, which is a key step towards improving energy efficiency and pulp quality.
Reliable operation despite high complexity
Despite the limited space at the site, ongoing operations could be maintained largely without disruption. At peak times, up to 650 people were working on the site at the same time. According to the company, the number of safety-related incidents remained low. This was due to close safety monitoring.
Significance for the region
The project also strengthens the Kramfors site. It helps to secure jobs and supports the development of sustainable industrial structures that will bring long-term benefits to both the region and Mondi.
Mondi Dynäs is now an integrated pulp and paper mill and is one of the largest producers of brown kraft paper and speciality kraft paper in the world.
