The packaging and paper company Mondi is taking a new approach with its new Monomaterial solution RetortPouch Recyclable which supports the circular economy. With the launch of RetortPouch Recyclable, Mondi has expanded its range of sustainable packaging solutions for premium food and pet food.
The new High-barrier stand-up pouches replaces complex multilayer and non-recyclable packaging for a range of food and wet animal feed products. Moist or semi-moist foods that are heat-treated in steam or hot water retort kettles to achieve commercial sterilisation for shelf-stable foods require sterilisable packaging. The aluminium typically used in most solutions has been replaced by an innovative High barrier film which keeps temperatures high and ensures short processing times during the retort process.
The new Mono-material packaging is fully recyclable, protects the product, achieves exceptional shelf life for a monomaterial solution and reduces potential food waste.
Two years of research for monomaterial solution
Mondi has spent over two years developing and testing this product to ensure that several key application requirements can be met. The launch of RetortPouch Recyclable is a further step towards Mondi's goal of becoming the world's first recyclable pouch by 2025 as part of its MAP2030-We are committed to ensuring that all products are reusable, recyclable or compostable.
„Sustainability is a top priority for Mondi and we endeavour to combine this innovation with our customer-centric approach. EcoSolutions approach, to all our customers. Our fully recyclable solution helps to reduce the environmental footprint of the product. Customers can rest assured that their products are fully protected during manufacturing and transport and fulfil their sustainability goals.“ Eveline Wagner-Hahn, Managing Director Mondi Korneuburg
