Henkel Adhesive Technologies has entered into a strategic partnership with the Swedish chemical company Sekab. The aim of the collaboration is to gradually replace fossil-based raw materials in adhesive production with bio-based alternatives.

Henkel Adhesive Technologies and the Swedish chemical company Sekab have agreed a strategic partnership to promote the use of bio-based raw materials in industrial adhesive production. The cooperation centres on the replacement of conventional ethyl acetate with a sustainable, bio-based alternative that can be used as a drop-in solution in existing production processes.

According to Henkel, the collaboration is intended to help accelerate the transition from fossil to renewable raw materials without compromising the performance of the adhesives. At the same time, both the company's own ecological footprint and CO₂ emissions along the value chain are to be reduced. For customers, the use of bio-based raw materials opens up the possibility of supporting their climate targets without having to fundamentally change existing applications or processes.

Focus on bio-based raw materials

The partnership is part of Henkel Adhesive Technologies' sustainability strategy. Among other things, this aims to promote circular solutions, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop innovative adhesive technologies. Bio-based raw materials play a central role in this, as they should contribute to decoupling the chemical industry from fossil resources in the long term.

Sekab also sees the collaboration as an example of how bio-based chemicals can be used on an industrial scale. According to the company, fossil-free raw materials can be integrated into existing value chains without any loss of performance if manufacturers and raw material suppliers work closely together.

The cooperation is part of a series of international initiatives by Henkel with which the company aims to strengthen innovation and sustainability along global supply chains. The focus here is on scalable solutions that fulfil both the ecological and economic requirements of the industry.
