The disposal of outer packaging and cardboard packaging is one of the tasks in food retailing that receives little attention. Even if potential savings are obvious, many companies find it difficult to tackle the issue. This is because the tearing and pressing of waste takes place far away from customer traffic and is seen as a nuisance. Priority is given to the core business.
While a number of sales processes have therefore already been optimised for efficiency, waste disposal often remains an invisible time waster that causes high personnel costs unnoticed. Hierber's Frische Centre in Grenzach also felt the effects of this. Previously, the employees disposed of the packaging in a standard compactor container.

„That was a absolute time waster and physically demanding for the employees. Coupled with the high costs of travelling to and from the press container, this was very difficult for us. Expensive." Roland Hönicke, Market Manager Hierber's Frische Centre in Grenzach
In addition, the filling volume of the press container could only be estimated by knocking. This resulted in containers not being collected when completely full. „That made us even additionally cost real money, because the journey to and from the site was not profitable for the waste disposal company,“ Hönicke recalled. There have long been more modern and efficient disposal solutions.
