Demand for reusable beverage crates rose by over 20% in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year. Increased stockpiling by consumers during the coronavirus crisis led to stronger demand for reusable crates for non-alcoholic beverages such as mineral water and soft drinks.

During the coronavirus crisis, many consumers are placing their trust in non-alcoholic drinks such as mineral water and soft drinks in environmentally friendly reusable packaging. The Pro Kunststoff industry association provides information on this in a recent press release. It refers to the current demand figures for the first half of 2020, particularly in the months of March, April and May. The Increased warehousing during the crisis leads to a stronger commitment of empties and thus also to special effects in the demand for bottle crates by the beverage industry.

„With our reusable drinks crates, we are making an important contribution to ensuring the supply of drinks to the population even in times of crisis.“
Frank Reininghaus, Chairman of the specialist group for bottle crates at pro-K Industrieverband Halbzeuge und Konsumprodukte aus Kunststoff e.V.

Pro Kunststoff sees the value-added crate as a tried-and-tested example of how it is possible to do without disposable packaging. A Reusable crates are in use for an average of 15 years, before it is sorted out and ground in plastic mills. This ground material can then be reprocessed into new crates by the crate manufacturer. In this way, the crate feeds on itself again and again and is therefore a good example of a successful cycle and resource-saving packaging.
