The market for alternative proteins offers start-ups and industrial companies enormous opportunities. Multivac is is now a member of the Federal Association for Alternative Protein Sources (BALPro). In doing so, the company contribute to a sustainable food supply to perform.
Seitan schnitzel, tofu sausage or veggie burgers made from pulses: In just a few years, alternative proteins have developed from a niche to a trend product worldwide. Driving their growth is important in order to sustainably feed the world's growing population and protect the environment at the same time, says Christian Traummann, Managing Director at Multivac. As a provider of processing and packaging solutions, the company has therefore decided to join BALPro, the Association for Alternative Protein Sources.
BALPro is committed to stakeholders who are involved in sustainable nutrition concepts. To this end, experts from science and politics as well as companies from every stage of the value chain work closely together in the association - from the cultivation of raw materials to sustainable packaging production.
The potential of the market for alternative proteins, not least for MULTIVAC, is revealed by the study Food for Thought: The Protein Transformation of the Boston Consulting Group. According to the baseline scenario, the market is expected to grow from 13 million tonnes in 2021 to 97 million tonnes in 2035. Market value: around 290 billion US dollars.
