The food industry is under pressure: staff shortages, increasing product diversity and new sustainability requirements demand efficient and flexible packaging solutions. At FACHPACK 2025, MULTIVAC will be presenting fully automated lines, intelligent control systems and sustainable packaging concepts for the food industry.
Automation to combat the shortage of skilled labour
Many processes on packaging lines today still require a high level of manual labour. This not only results in higher costs, but also increases the pressure in times of a shortage of skilled labour. MULTIVAC is focussing here on a high degree of automation and simple operating concepts. „Our aim is to automate as many of these work steps as possible and to design systems in such a way that personnel without special expertise can also carry out format changeovers quickly and safely,“ explains Dietmar Bohlen, Vice President at MULTIVAC Germany.
The combination of automation and intelligent machine control should help companies to operate production lines more flexibly and economically - especially with smaller batch sizes and increasing product diversity.
Traysealer line with AI support
As an example of this approach, MULTIVAC will be showing a fully automated Traysealer line for packaging ready meals. The centrepiece is the compact traysealer TX 620, trays in a protective atmosphere in sustainable cardboard packaging reliably sealed with a thin, recyclable film.
The line is supplemented by a conveyor belt labelling system that enables AI-based inspection system is used to check products at the infeed. Labels and print images are checked at the outfeed. The packaged trays are stacked in boxes by a Cobot, which takes over the loading fully automatically. According to MULTIVAC, the solution is designed for high cycle outputs, is hygienically optimised and designed for frequent product changes.
System solutions from a single source
In addition to the traysealer line, MULTIVAC will be exhibiting a Compact thermoforming packaging machine, that packs convenience products and delicatessen. Various film materials are processed, which are precisely matched to the machine. The interaction between machine and packaging material ensures high process reliability, efficient processes and minimises maintenance costs.
The company pursues a „one-stop shop“ approach: from selecting the right machine and the right consumables to integrating intelligent automation technologies, customers receive a complete packaging solution that can be flexibly adapted to changing production requirements.
Focus on sustainability
With a view to the upcoming EU packaging regulation (PPWR) MULTIVAC attaches great importance to the conservation of resources and the use of recyclable or renewable materials. The line solutions on display reduce material consumption, enable sustainable trays and films to be processed and contribute to the fulfilment of future regulatory requirements.
At the same time, end-to-end data integration and intelligent control systems ensure efficiency and traceability in the production processes - important factors for modern, safe and sustainable food packaging.
