Nelipak has completed the acquisition of Merrill's Packaging, strengthening its presence in key centres of the healthcare industry. The company expands its portfolio of medical packaging solutions and gains strategically located facilities in California and Costa Rica.
Nelipak, a global provider of healthcare packaging, has fully acquired Merrill's Packaging. The custom thermoforming solutions specialist has been serving the medical device, pharmaceutical and life science industries for decades and operates ISO 13485-certified facilities in Burlingame, California and Alajuela, Costa Rica, both with ISO Class 8 cleanrooms. Founded in 1961, Merrill's has established itself as a market player through its focus on individual customer needs and continuous expansion of its offering, including design, development and tooling services.
Significance for Nelipak's global network
According to the company, Merrill's Packaging brings extensive thermoforming expertise, established customer relationships and a strong regional presence in two major medtech hubs to the group. Pat Chambliss, CEO of Nelipak, said: „We have great respect for their history of growth, innovation and customer focus. Nelipak will benefit from Merrill's dedicated and talented team, custom thermoforming capabilities, strong customer relationships and well-located manufacturing facilities in California and Costa Rica.“
Merrill's also sees the acquisition as a strategic development. CEO Rick Schulz said: „This is an incredible growth opportunity for Merrill's employees and clients. With access to Nelipak's global capabilities and broad range of rigid and flexible product solutions, we look forward to finding new ways to deliver additional value to our clients.“
Expansion of the range for medical packaging
With the integration, Nelipak is expanding its portfolio of rigid and flexible packaging as well as accompanying development and engineering services. The company operates 14 sites worldwide, including eight in the Americas, five in Europe and one in Asia. Merrill's existing product range complements this offering and, according to the company, will strengthen its innovation and supply capacity in high-growth markets.
