Neste, the world's leading supplier of renewable diesel, renewable aviation fuel and an expert in providing renewable chemical drop-in solutions, and Ravago, the world's leading distributor and recycler of polymers, are joining forces to develop chemical recycling of plastic waste with the aim of achieving significant industrial volumes.
By working together on chemical recycling, Neste and Ravago want to minimise the Accelerating the circular economy of materials and improve resource efficiency in the petrochemical industry. Both companies also want to offer more sustainable alternatives to primary fossil raw materials.
Sustainable degradation of plastics
The chemical recycling of plastic waste enables the petrochemical industry to achieve its recycling targets and develop a more sustainable, climate-friendly offering. The companies have jointly set themselves the goal of developing a Capacity to process over 200,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year to reach.
„Ravago's geographical Reach and expertise in plastics recycling on the one hand and Neste's track record in processing challenging refinery feedstocks on the other provide an excellent basis for demonstrating and rapidly expanding chemical recycling. The collaboration also brings Neste closer to the partnerships and infrastructure needed to realise our goal of Plastics Pledge to achieve. This goal is to process more than one million tonnes of plastic waste by 2030. In this way, we can contribute to increasing the annual European recycling rate of Post-consumer plastic waste by 25 to 30 per cent compared to the current level.”
Mercedes Alonso, Executive Vice President, Renewable Polymers and Chemicals, Neste.
Chemical recycling enables companies to even Coloured and mixed plastic packaging waste into high-quality raw materials for the production of new plastics, chemicals and fuels.
In contrast to mechanically recycled plastics, chemically recycled used plastics can be used as a raw material for even the most sensitive applications such as Primary packaging for food or pharmaceutical and medical products can be used.
