With Cap-Lock for vials, Schreiner MediPharm, in cooperation with Oechslerhealth, is presenting an innovative solution for analogue and digital first-opening indication.

The integrity of primary packaging is a decisive factor for safety in the pharmaceutical supply chain. Vials in particular, which are often sealed with flip-off caps, are at risk of undetected tampering. In view of the increasing requirements for digital solutions along the supply chain, Schreiner MediPharm has developed a new solution in collaboration with Oechslerhealth: Cap-Lock for vials.

Cap-Lock is based on an innovative design that provides an irreversible first-opening indication. A plastic cap developed by Oechslerhealth is firmly attached to the flip-off cap of the vial. When opened, the cap-lock label is destroyed, ensuring a clear first-opening indication and preventing the cap from being put back on unnoticed. This analogue safety function offers a decisive advantage in ensuring product integrity.

Digital functions for more transparency

In addition to analogue security, Cap-Lock also offers digital options for optimising the supply chain. An integrated RFID chip enables digital first-opening indication and tracking of individual vials at unit level. This supports medication management by automatically recognising vials that have already been opened. In addition, the NFC functionality enables simple authentication via smartphone, which further strengthens product and brand protection.

Adaptability and added value

Cap-Lock can be adapted to all common vial sizes, which offers pharmaceutical manufacturers flexibility. The combination of analogue safety display and digital functionality shows how traditional and modern technologies can be combined to meet the increasing demands for product integrity, transparency and automation. This forward-looking solution from Schreiner MediPharm offers convincing answers to the challenges of the modern pharmaceutical supply chain.

By integrating Cap-Lock into their packaging strategy, pharmaceutical companies can not only increase the safety of their products, but also boost the efficiency of their processes. This is a decisive step towards a digitalised and secure pharmaceutical supply chain.
