Ultrapolymers is expanding its portfolio with functionalised polymers from SK Functional Polymers. These innovative materials optimise the compatibility of different plastics and support sustainable packaging solutions. They offer improved recyclability and functionality in packaging production.
The plastics distributor Ultrapolymers has expanded its broad portfolio with a range of innovative functional polymers from SK Functional Polymers. These new materials, including products based on ethylene, acrylic and maleic anhydride, offer a variety of applications that are both technical and environmentally friendly solutions in the packaging industry.
A central focus of the new product line is on improving the recycling of plastics. The functional polymers act as impact modifiers and compatibilisers and help to improve the recyclability of plastics. Increase the compatibility of different types of plastic. They prove to be extremely efficient, especially when combining materials such as PET/PE, PE/PA and PP/EVOH. This property supports the use of post-consumer recycled materials (PCR) and post-industrial recycled materials (PIR) and thus promotes the circular economy.

The new materials are available in various applications Lotader products can be used for barrier films and hot-melt adhesives in packaging, including in the food sector. They also improve the impact strength of engineering plastics. Lotryl copolymers modify the viscosity of ABS and PA and are used as sealing layers in flexible packaging. Primacor copolymers are suitable for sealing layers between polymers and metals such as aluminium as well as glass and paper. Ionia ionomers are used in bonding layers and transparent hard packaging. Evatane copolymers, mainly made from ethylene and vinyl acetate, are used for laminating and sealing layers. Orevac polyolefins and maleic anhydride copolymers offer Solutions for multilayer barrier films and improved recycling. Evasin copolymers act as an oxygen barrier in food packaging. The functional polymers help to reduce the material thickness and weight of packaging without compromising its mechanical strength. One example of this is Supreme from SK geo centric, a polyolefinic plastomer that is particularly valued for its sealing properties and optical clarity.
Focus on sustainability and efficiency
„Our expanded portfolio supports manufacturers in fulfilling strict circular economy regulations. Our compatibilisers facilitate recycling in mixed material streams and contribute to the development of lightweight, thin-walled and easy-to-open packaging.“
Hermann Diem, Business Development Manager at Ultrapolymers
The new polymers complement the company's existing range, which includes high-purity polyolefins, polyamides, styrene copolymers and bio-based plastics. This expansion should make it possible to develop more efficient and environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
