New indicator for the friction of packaging films

Packaging machine operators can use a new tool from Tentoma to estimate the coefficient of friction of packaging film.

Packaging machine operators can easily estimate the coefficient of friction of packaging film with a new tool. Tentoma offers a simple tool for this purpose, as films with a certain coefficient of friction are required for the smooth operation of packaging machines.

Tentoma has introduced the COF Indicator ST 1.0 tool to assess whether the coefficient of friction (COF) of the packaging film meets the respective requirements. This simple tool can be used on site by the service team or the operators on the packaging line. By performing a sliding test with two film samples, the estimated value of the coefficient of friction can be read on the integrated scale. If the value indicates an incorrect coefficient of friction, you will need to contact the film supplier to obtain an accurate measurement of the coefficient of friction. Film suppliers usually have access to measuring equipment that can be used to measure the exact value of the coefficient of friction according to the ISO standard. This makes it possible to determine whether the packaging film has the required coefficient of friction.

The correct coefficient of friction on the packaging film is crucial for optimising performance and achieving the maximum capacity of a packaging machine. However, the value on a film roll may differ from the supplier's specifications. This discrepancy often goes unnoticed until the film roll is installed, which leads to packaging machine failure. In the event of repeated packaging machine failures, it is therefore always advisable to check the coefficient of friction of the packaging film. To provide support in such situations, Tentoma has developed the COF Indicator ST 1.0 tool.

COF Indicator ST 1.0 is a simple slip tester for quickly estimating the coefficient of friction of packaging films. This device only estimates the value, but is more affordable than a more precise measuring device according to the ISO standard. The COF indicator therefore enables manufacturers with a packaging line that Measure friction on the packaging film to identify potential problems.

Please note that the COF indicator ST 1.0 only provides an estimated value for the coefficient of friction. To determine the exact value in accordance with the ISO standard, it is necessary to test the film with a more precise measuring device.
