Schreiner MediPharm will be presenting new functional labels at Pharmapack from 24 to 25 January in Paris. The labels are designed to reduce oxygen diffusion in COC syringes.

Prefilled COC syringes made of polymer have established themselves as an alternative to glass syringes in the pharmaceutical industry. They offer advantages such as Break resistance, lower weight, more flexible design and lower protein absorption compared to glass vessels. However, they have reduced oxygen and gas barrier properties, which is particularly challenging in the case of oxygen-sensitive biologics and biosimilars, which are used for the treatment of cancer or autoimmune diseases.

The new labels with barrier function from Schreiner MediPharm offer an innovative and efficient solution to this challenge. Thanks to their special choice of materials and design, these functional labels can Reduce oxygen diffusion in COC syringes. Customers can choose between two variants: A label that covers the syringe body as much as possible, and a Syringe-Closure-Wrap with additional barrier function, which encloses the syringe body and cap like a second skin and is sealed at the top end. Thanks to its integrated first-opening indication, Syringe-Closure-Wrap also offers an additional barrier function. reliable proof of manipulation.

Both label variants have been extensively tested on Schott TOPPAC 1 ml long COC syringes with regard to their barrier properties and have achieved impressive results: The Oxygen ingress is reduced. Schreiner MediPharm develops the labels with gas barrier function customised for the specific application and the active ingredient contained in the syringe to ensure the best possible protective function. The labels enable pharmaceutical manufacturers to easily implement an oxygen barrier without having to adapt the primary packaging or make complex process changes.
