In February 2026, Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Europe GmbH, commissioned a new PET film line at its Wiesbaden site. After a two-year construction phase, the production capacity for Hostaphan polyester films has thus increased significantly.

With the start-up of the new line, the production volume in Wiesbaden will increase by 27,000 tonnes to a total of 75,000 tonnes of Hostaphan PET film per year. The line is equipped with modern process technology and fulfils current European standards, according to the company.

Expansion of capacity and technology

Energy is supplied by a gas and steam power plant with combined heat and power generation, which is provided by the operator of the industrial park. Mitsubishi Polyester Film also uses its own heat recovery system to further improve energy efficiency.

The new infrastructure also includes an automatic packaging station that can operate different packaging systems. This is intended to make the packaging processes more efficient.

Focus on coating and recycling

According to the company, the new line also expands its product portfolio. A water-based coating complements the existing range of Hostaphan films. In addition, the technical equipment enables the further expansion of the PCR film programme.

According to the company, internal mechanical recycling is used to reprocess production rejects and avoid waste. This strengthens the Wiesbaden site's position in the field of functional and recyclable PET films for various industrial applications.
