Film manufacturer Südpack is providing information about its product and service portfolio in the field of sustainable packaging solutions, above all the Pure-Line concepts. It includes high-performance films for thermoformed packaging, trays and pouches that are suitable for packaging a wide variety of food products. High recyclability and material efficiency are paired with optimum product quality and safety.
The company expects a high level of visitor interest in the area of recyclable single-material solutions based on PP and PE. The recyclable high-performance films in the Pure-Line are also characterised by a significantly lower CO2-footprint compared to conventional concepts and are versatile in use.
In addition to packaging solutions for fresh food, for example, a PP-based concept for packaging coffee in doypacks will be presented as a substitute for the usual PET/aluminium composites. This reduces the CO2-footprint of coffee packaging by over 30 per cent according to internal LCA calculations.
Another new product is the (multi-)peel PET floatable. Due to its lower density, the floatable top film can be separated from the PET tray material stream during the recycling process, allowing it to be recycled by type.
The PP and PE-based, recyclable monomaterials for the production of stand-up pouches with or without reclosure are a sustainable alternative to conventional film structures. For manufacturers and fillers of liquid or pasty foods, such as fruit purees, the pouches can also be equipped with spouts. Together with its co-operation partners SN Maschinenbau and Menshen, Südpack offers an overall concept for the simple and safe in-house production of spouted pouches.
Since the end of 2023, the new EcoTrace LCA tool has been an indispensable component in the assessment of the life cycle assessment of packaging solutions: The company uses this tool to analyse the entire life cycle of its own products as well as customer concepts in terms of their environmental impact. This enables a fact-based decision to be made that takes into account not only greenhouse gases (CO2e) also takes into account the consumption of fossil resources as well as ecological and human toxicity.
