Temperature-sensitive products require protection from external weather influences when being shipped via standard parcel services. Ecocool GmbH offers an economical solution for this with its new „Smartliner“ refrigerated packaging, especially for the booming online trade.

In conjunction with Coolpack cooling elements, the newly developed insulating insert ensures that the target temperature in the shipping box remains stable for up to 48 hours. This means that temperature-sensitive goods such as food or medicines can withstand the transport conditions in standard shipping.

The centrepiece of the Smartliner is an insert for shipping cartons made from non-woven plastic. The lightweight polyester fibres have hardly any effect on the transport weight. Thanks to its cushioning material properties, Smartliner protects sensitive products and encloses them with a simple, foldable closure.

As with the Insulated envelope „Ecocool uses “Smartcooler" in the production process to 80 per cent recycled PET bottles and thus focusses on sustainable resources in the production chain. The insulating inserts are available in three standard sizes: S (360 mm x 200 mm x 210 mm), M (400 mm x 300 mm x 250 mm) and L (580 mm x 380 mm x 200 mm). These are suitable for lining standardised shipping cartons. Ecocool also produces customised sizes on request, including the newly developed „Smartliner“: a cooling packaging consisting of a plastic fleece that is inserted into a shipping box together with cool packs. „Smartliner“: Cooling performance tested under real conditions

Before each new product launch, Ecocool tests the performance and quality of its products in its own climate chamber. The insulating properties of „Smartliner“ were tested in a 55-hour trial at ambient temperatures between 18 and 32 degrees Celsius. In the climate chamber test, the insulating performance of size S - fitted with four Coolpack cooling elements (500 grams each) - at 24 hours below 4 degrees Celsius and up to 44 hours below 8 degrees Celsius. In the test, „Smartliner“ M was equipped with four and “Smartliner" L with six cool packs (900 grams each), with the temperature of the centre insert only exceeding 4 degrees Celsius after 38 hours.

„The performance of our Ecocool products is regularly tested in the climate chamber using a strict temperature profile. Our Smartliner achieved very good cooling and insulation results. Generally speaking, the more Coolpack cooling elements there are in the Smartliner carton insert, the longer the temperature remains stable during shipping and the goods stay fresh for the end consumer,“ says Dr Florian Siedenburg, Managing Director of Ecocool GmbH. „The targeted combination of cooling and insulation performance ensures the perfect quality of fresh food or heat-sensitive beauty products“.

[Ecocool was founded in 1999 by graduate economist Heinrich Siedenburg and graduate engineer Ulf C. Abbes. Their innovative packaging and insulation concepts won the Bremerhaven Founder's Prize in the same year. The company has been managed by Dr Florian Siedenburg since 2015. Refrigerated packaging and packaging components from Ecocool are successfully used by a steadily growing number of customers in the pharmaceutical, online food delivery, shipping and logistics sectors. The new production facility in Bremerhaven was therefore inaugurated in autumn 2015[/infotext].
