Beiersdorf is one of the first cosmetics companies to publish the EcoBeautyScore for its Nivea and Eucerin facial care products. The score, developed by companies in the cosmetics industry on their own initiative, indicates the environmental impact of a product.

After several years of collaboration between more than 70 companies, trade partners and associations in the cosmetics and personal care industry Beiersdorf publishes the results of the EcoBeautyScore for the Nivea and Eucerin face care ranges. These Scores are placed online on the respective brand websites in the product information section. This creates new transparency for consumers regarding the environmental impact of products.

„Sustainability requires teamwork. If we act together as an industry, we can drive change in a completely different way. And sustainability must address consumers and their needs. The launch of the EcoBeautyScore is a milestone - not only is the result of many years of cross-company collaboration visible, it also creates relevant added value for our consumers.“

EcoBeautyScores for Nivea and Eucerin

Nivea has published the EcoBeautyScore online for its facial care products in the first European markets, including France, Germany and Great Britain (more countries to follow). Consumers can view the results on the product pages of the local Nivea websites. The fact that Beiersdorf has revised formulations and packaging in recent years in order to reduce the environmental footprint of its products is paying off: 99 per cent of the face care products assessed have an A or B score.

For Eucerin, the ratings are initially published on the global website and will be visible on the local websites in Europe over the course of the year. Here too, the extensive product revisions have led to excellent results: 100 per cent of Eucerin Face Care products are rated A or B.

What is the EcoBeautyScore?

The EcoBeautyScore takes into account 16 environmental criteria based on scientific data. The analysis tool then gives a score between A (best rating) and E (worst rating). Consumers can use this score to recognise how a product affects the environment - and use this information to directly compare different products and brands. The EcoBeautyScore was developed by companies in the cosmetics industry on their own initiative and is intended to help people make more sustainable purchasing decisions.

The EcoBeautyScore Association, founded more than three years ago, now brings together more than 70 companies in the industry. The tool for calculating the scores was introduced in March 2025: It enables companies to visualise the environmental impact of their products. It is currently available for facial care, shower care, shampoo and hair care products. The publication of the first EcoBeautyScores by manufacturers (initially online) is a milestone for the industry. At the same time, the Association is already working on defining further categories and setting up the corresponding database so that the EcoBeautyScore can become even more visible with additional categories in the coming years.
