Automation specialist Omron has opened a new location in Dortmund. Here, the company presents stationary and mobile robotics solutions as well as smart approaches for the production of the future.
While the Omron site in Langenfeld will continue to function as the company's German headquarters, the Dortmund branch, with its approximately 1,850 square metres, has significantly more presentation and exhibition space, so that training, customer training and feasibility studies (proof of concept - POC) can be better organised here. Customers can bring samples and enquire whether and how individual production processes can be automated.
The floor space of the new multi-tenant properties near Dortmund University of Technology and Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts can be divided. On the ground floors of the buildings technology areas with delivery zones are available, The office and administration areas are located on the upper floors.
„Automation and robotics are currently experiencing enormous growth, as they help to efficiently tackle challenges such as the shortage of skilled labour, productivity increases and sustainability efforts. In the new premises, customers and interested parties can gain their own impression of the possibilities and opportunities offered by such technologies. They can also find out that robotics is suitable for a wide range of company sizes, industries and production requirements. This helps to overcome the reservations that still sometimes exist, especially among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).“

Dortmund is an important German robotics centre
He explains: „We have always been connected to Dortmund, because this was the location of Adept Technology, which was founded in 1983 and acquired by Omron in 2015. We have significantly advanced the development of robot systems for production and plant automation. Dortmund is also home to many experienced robotics experts. Omron's close co-operation with the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Department of Mechanical Engineering, should also be emphasised. Here a Excellent cooperation between teaching and business, from which both sides benefit.“
