A new sealing film that can be processed evenly even under changing environmental conditions was honoured in the „Sustainability“ category of the German Packaging Award. According to the manufacturer, „CompresSeal“ from Constantia Flexibles has better product properties than conventional PE films and is up to 30 per cent lighter.

With its „CompresSeal“ product, Constantia Flexibles has won the German Packaging Award 2017 in the „Sustainability“ category. This makes the Austrian company with various German sites one of 34 winners in ten categories selected by an independent jury from 195 submissions. The award is organised by the German Packaging Institute (dvi). Federal Minister of Economics Brigitte Zypries is the patron of the event.

The prize was awarded to „CompresSeal“, a Film packaging, which have better sealing properties than conventional PE films offers. The film is produced using a special hot stamping technique. This achieves a constant coefficient of sliding friction, which enables the films to be processed evenly on packaging systems - regardless of changing temperatures or ageing processes. According to the price justification, „CompresSeal“ saves up to 30 per cent of the sealing material compared to conventional film packaging and is correspondingly lighter. The hermetically sealed films are used for Flowpacks for coffee, nuts, savoury snacks and stand-up pouches for liquids.

The development of the new packaging material was driven by Achim Grefenstein, Global Head of Research & Development, and his team at Constantia's Weiden site. „They have developed an innovative product in a short space of time that offers our customers a sustainable solution for flowpacks,“ praises Stefan Grote, Executive Vice President of the Food Europe Division.
