Oribe Hair Care, a brand of KAO Salon Division, has developed two limited edition gift sets for the Chinese Lunar New Year 2025. The design of the eco-friendly boxes was inspired by a traditional knotting technique.

The customised gift boxes made from FSC-certified, 100 per cent recycled paper are produced using a chlorine-free process with soy inks and electricity from renewable sources. The inside is made from 100 per cent biodegradable and renewable plant fibres. The elaborate packaging design was created by artist and textile designer Chris Chun.

The packaging is inspired by the “Mystic Knot” craft, a 1,000-year-old knotting technique that is considered the favourite ornament of many families celebrating the Lunar New Year. The knot woven from a single thread - like a snake, symbolises long happiness, prosperity and abundance. Chun creates this knot in his design by visually interweaving traditional patterns and motifs ranging from peonies and chrysanthemums to shimmering snakeskin.
