What do gorillas, parrots and elephants have to do with chocolate? At the planet-positive chocolate company Original Beans, a lot, because every single one of its award-winning single origin bars protects the endangered rainforest habitat of these animals.
And this is precisely why they are at the centre of the brand new ones, colourful packaging, which will be available in stores from September 2019. Each bar features the animal that lives where the cocoa in the chocolate comes from in an artful, elegant way.
A mountain gorilla from the Virunga National Park in eastern Congo, for example, a mighty condor from the Chuncho Valley in Peru, a playful elephant from the Udzungwa National Park in Tanzania and other rare animal species. This is because the diversity of species is being preserved through the sustainable cultivation of cocoa and the Reforestation of the rainforest The only exception is the Femmes de Virunga variety, which is also protected. on the new packaging celebrates a tribute to the strong women in eastern Congo who are able to lead an independent life thanks to sustainable cocoa cultivation.
New packaging
The new packaging, which was designed on a noble, sustainable paper made from FSC-certified wood cellulose, by Californian artist Kimberly Varella. She skilfully plays with Original Beans' claim to luxury, the origin of the world's finest and rarest cocoa beans and nature conservation, which is at the heart of the social enterprise.
„We have worked hard to produce the most environmentally friendly paper in the world. We are proud that it is biodegradable and fully compostable,“ says Philipp Kauffmann, CEO and founder of Original Beans.
As part of its One Bar: One Tree programme plants Original Beans for every bar of chocolate sold a tree in the cocoa-growing regions, thus ensuring that the rare cocoa varieties are preserved for future generations. To date, Original Beans has planted and preserved two million trees in the origins of cocoa. Original Beans chocolates are available in the online shop at http://www.originalbeans.de, available in many organic markets such as Alnatura, Basic, denn's, etc. as well as in selected delicatessen shops.
