With over 63,000 trade visitors and a strong focus on automation, AI and alternative proteins, IFFA 2025 in Frankfurt proved to be the central innovation platform for meat and protein processing.

IFFA 2025 - Technology for Meat and Alternative Proteins closed on 8 May with extremely positive results. A total of 63,117 trade visitors from 144 countries attended the trade fair - a significant increase compared to 2022. 74 % of the guests came from abroad, in particular from China, Spain, Poland, the USA, Brazil, Australia and the Netherlands.

With 1,019 exhibitors from 52 nations, the entire value chain was represented under the motto „Rethinking Meat and Proteins“ - from processing, packaging and ingredients to trade and craftsmanship.

Innovation drivers: automation, AI and robotics

The focus was on data-driven process intelligence, AI-supported applications and robotic solutions that respond to the increasing shortage of skilled labour and need for efficiency in the industry. Many exhibitors presented smart packaging technologies, automated labelling and intelligent control systems for transparency and resource efficiency along production lines.

Alternative proteins on the rise

A particular highlight was the „World of New Proteins“, which occupied its own exhibition area at IFFA for the first time. Topics such as precision fermentation, mycoproteins and plant-based products were at the centre of numerous expert discussions and panels. The trend towards sustainable protein sources is reflected in rising industrial demand and growing interest in suitable packaging solutions.

Changing packaging: smart solutions for trade and industry

Both industrial customers and butchers were able to find out about digital packaging technologies, new labelling solutions and material-efficient systems. The IFFA Factory demonstrated how modern technology optimises processes and reduces the workload of employees. Topics such as biointelligence in mechanical engineering and digitalisation as an opportunity for SMEs dominated the discussions.

Satisfaction at all levels

According to the visitor survey, 98 % of participants stated that they had achieved their trade fair objectives. 95 % were very satisfied with the programme. More than half of the visitors anticipate a positive industry trend. The practical event programme with live cooking, product tastings, start-up panels and international competitions was particularly appreciated.

The next IFFA - Technology for Meat and Alternative Proteins - will take place from 13 to 18 May 2028.
