At the end of November, the 17th German Sustainability Award (DNP) will once again honour the best products for a sustainable future. The companies nominated for the award in the packaging category have now been announced.
The first round of judging for the German Sustainability Award for Business has been completed. 224 expert jurors from research, associations, consulting and civil society have decided on over 1,000 nominees in 100 sectors.
The German Sustainability Award for Companies honours pioneers in the German economy who make particularly effective, successful and exemplary contributions to sustainability in their sectors. These companies symbolise a joint effort that unites rather than divides all companies in an industry.

Bayonix develops and manufactures recyclable packaging and food contact materials made in Bavaria from a new material that is completely free of harmful substances, recyclable without loss and fully biodegradable. The BAYONIX® BOTTLE has been awarded „GOLD“ level according to the Cradle to Cradle Certified® product standard, and even „PLATIN“ in the area of material health.

The Hamburg-based CleanTech company BIO-LUTIONS converts agricultural waste into self-binding and durable natural fibres purely mechanically, without using binding agents or chemical cellulose insulation. BIO-LUTIONS aims to expand decentralised production and the environmentally friendly process globally in order to create a more sustainable and cost-effective alternative to disposable plastic.

CHCOAL Packaging Solutions GmbH is a 2nd generation family-run SME that manufactures sustainable packaging and associated machinery. The packaging focus is on material savings up to 84%, CO2 reduction up to 82%, recyclability & compostability and elimination of microplastics. As winner of the SPC Innovator Award, CHCOAL is revolutionising the packaging industry with innovative solutions and driving it towards sustainability at full throttle. For a world without plastic waste!

Gerresheimer is a major German manufacturer of primary packaging made of glass, speciality glass and plastics for the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries. The company aims to be a pioneer in the development of sustainable solutions in this area and has developed a concrete sustainability strategy to reduce resources and CO2 emissions.

jonatura GmbH produces sustainable, bio-based packaging and shipping materials. All products are biodegradable and compostable to minimise the impact on the environment.

Landpack is a company that specialises in the production of environmentally friendly insulated packaging solutions. They specialise in recyclable materials and reduce their carbon footprint by using 100% renewable energy and sustainable production processes.

Leef Blattwerk is a company that specialises in the manufacture and sale of environmentally friendly paper products. They take measures such as using recycled materials and reducing their environmental footprint and source natural, fair-trade raw materials for their products.

Pleta is a company that specialises in fairly produced, sustainable packaging, plates and cutlery. The products are made from natural raw materials, manufactured under fair conditions and are reusable.

PIZZycle is a company that specialises in the production of environmentally friendly pizza packaging. They use recyclable materials and reduce their carbon footprint through local production and delivery.

Repaq develops home-compostable certified zero-waste film packaging for food. Repaq replaces plastic, reduces CO2 emissions and closes the biological raw material cycle. Repaq packaging helps companies to achieve the SDGs and Paris climate targets. It prevents microplastics and decomposes independently in nature within a maximum of 180 days.

Sykell, founded in 2021, is expanding the tried-and-tested German bottle deposit system with the “EINFACH MEHRWEG” solution to include innovative reusable packaging in the food and takeaway sector. The solution has been certified with the Blue Angel and has already saved 1.5 million single-use packs by 2024. The system includes automatic take-back, washing, deposit accounting and transport. Sykell also operates its own CIRCULAR ERP software solution for managing reusable products.

Packaging specialist Tetra Pak, for example, has set itself the goal of developing food carton packaging that is made from renewable or recycled raw materials and is itself recyclable and climate-neutral. A large number of measures are being taken to achieve this. The aim is to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 1+2 by 2030 and for the entire supply chain by 2050.
In a subsequent second round, the jury will decide on the finalists. The award ceremony will take place on 28 November 2024 as part of the 17th German Sustainability Day at the MARITIM Hotel Düsseldorf, where CEOs and sustainability managers from the 100 pioneering companies from all sectors will receive their awards.
Five cross-sector winners will also be honoured for outstanding achievements in the transformation fields of climate, resources, nature, value chain and society.
