Different countries, different packaging: A look at supermarkets around the world shows how differently products are presented, protected and designed.

Not only do other countries have different specialities, they are often packaged differently to us. Sometimes it is not obvious at first glance what is inside the packaging. We took a look around the supermarkets in some countries and start this short series with a packaging check in Norway.

Fish soup

Ready-made fish soup is available in 1-litre stand-up pouches, as well as stews and Thai soups.

Fish pudding

Fish pudding (fløtepudding) is a typical Norwegian dish. Here it is packaged in a film tube to prevent cutting.

Display

Brown cheese

Fløtemysost is a brown cheese with a sweet caramel flavour. Around 12,000 tonnes of brown cheese are produced in Norway every year and packaged as sliceable blocks in foil.

Pulses

Pulses are often available in Norwegian supermarkets in 380 gram composite cartons, less often in tins.

Yoghurt

The Q-Meieriene dairy fills its yoghurt in stand-up pouches with a shrink-wrapped spout.
