Packaging Valley Germany e. V. is hosting this year's Sustainability Day in Filderstadt on 24 July 2025. The focus will be on impulses and strategies for a sustainable value chain in packaging machine construction. With the Sustainability Day 2025, Packaging Valley is creating a platform for experts from industry, mechanical engineering, retail and design. The event centres on the question of how sustainability can not only be considered but also implemented along the entire packaging value chain - in terms of technology, strategy and design.
Sustainability as a driver of innovation
The industry dialogue is aimed in particular at managing directors, sustainability managers and specialists from strategy, purchasing and development. The aim is to bring together relevant perspectives and discuss practical solutions for sustainable packaging processes.
Impulses from industry, trade and design
The speakers include renowned voices from well-known companies. Thus Georg Hoffmann from Alfred Ritter provide insights into how sustainability can already be anchored in the procurement of machines. The requirements of the retail sector for transparent sustainability data will also be addressed. Alexander Reitz from PreZero Sustainable Packaging reports on expectations on the trading side.
Insights from the pharmaceutical industry Matthias Markus from the Bayer AG, which explains how sustainability strategies are implemented in the packaging sector. It also shows Carolyn Leung and Thomas Sievers from the Uhlmann Group The report shows which obstacles stand in the way of a functioning circular economy in mechanical engineering - and how they can be overcome.
The interplay between design, ecology and economy is also highlighted: Petra Kurz-Ottenwälder and Carmen Hinderberger from the Design office Ottenwälder and Ottenwälder talk about how design can influence sustainable development. A practical look at raw materials and procurement processes is provided by Haiko Krais from Harro Höfliger packaging machines.
How digitalisation and automation can contribute to greater sustainability is demonstrated by Jonas Schmitt and Alexander Hack from SEW-EURODRIVE based on a specific use of digital twins. Also Markus Burkert from Syntegon Technology has been announced as a speaker. Further programme items will follow.

Venue and participation
The Sustainability Day will take place on 24 July 2025 at the HERMA GmbH in Filderstadt. The event starts at 9.30 am, registration is possible from 9.00 am. The participation fee is 249 euros, for members of Packaging Valley the fee is reduced to 99 euros.
