Packchampion has consistently aligned its sustainability strategy with a view to the EmpCo rules that will apply from September. The shipping packaging specialist is the first and currently only company to have its products certified in accordance with the upcoming EU guidelines on greenwashing.

The EU Directive (EU) 2024/825 „Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition“ significantly tightens the requirements for sustainability claims in the B2C sector. From 27 September 2026, environmental labels may only be used if they originate from public bodies or are based on an independent certification system with third-party verification. Products already on the market will also have to be compliant.

The Regensburg-based company Packchampion reacted early. According to the company, it is currently the first and only company to have its packaging certified in accordance with the upcoming EU guidelines. The company is officially authorised to use the „100 % compostable“ seal of the Zerkom quality mark. According to Zerkom, the guarantee mark confirms fully tested compostability based on defined standards and independent monitoring.

Packchampion also relies on external assurance from Zerkom for recycled content claims. With „TECHUM - Verified Recycled Content“, the actual recycled content is verified and certified on the basis of documented evidence. The company is thus clearly positioning itself against unverifiable „self-claims“.

Strategic product lines

A key element of the sustainability strategy is the CO₂ Master product line. Here, Packchampion focuses on reduced paper grammages and works with partners who are certified according to high EcoVadis standards. According to the product description, the solutions are up to 50 per cent lighter than traditional solid board bags and combine material efficiency with stability.

With the new Blackline series, the company is adding a design-orientated solution for e-commerce to its portfolio. The black exterior gives the envelopes a premium look, while the self-adhesive seal and tear strip enable efficient handling. FSC materials are used in the range.

Neutral dropshipping and digital processes

In addition to the product range, Packchampion offers neutral dropshipping from just one sales unit. Retail partners can have sustainable packaging solutions sent directly to their customers without having to build up their own stocks.

Digitalisation also plays a central role. All commercial processes are mapped via a B2B portal (PC2B) - including an intuitive price calculator for quick calculations in day-to-day business. ERP or shop systems can be connected via an API interface in order to efficiently integrate order and data processes.

With certified sustainability certificates, material-optimised product lines and digital sales processes, Packchampion is clearly aligning its business strategy with the upcoming regulatory requirements.
