The PackTheFuture Award was presented for the third time in 2017. A total of ten innovative plastic packaging products have now been honoured at the PackTheFuture Award ceremony on 9 May 2017 in Düsseldorf at interpack.
The competition is jointly organised by the French plastics packaging association ELIPSO and the IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. (Industrial Association for Plastic Packaging). In addition to France and Germany, the 37 entries for the competition also came from Austria, Italy and Spain, demonstrating the dynamism and innovative capacity of the industry.
Once again, the topic Sustainability in particular focus. Almost half of the submissions were in the category Ecodesign (recycling, weight reduction, material savings). However, the issue of social responsibility is also becoming increasingly important for companies in the sector. Some innovations in this context focussed, for example, on easier opening and reclosing, an important aspect in view of the increasing ageing of our society.
This year, the category SAVE FOOD newly introduced. Food protection also played an important role at this year's interpack. It was shown that plastic packaging can offer ideal solutions for keeping our food fresher and longer.

The managing directors of the two associations, Elipso and IK, are impressed by the success of the competition so far and by the quality and diversity of the packaging innovations submitted. The PackTheFuture Award 2017 was supported by ECO-EMBALLAGES, SunChemical, Der Grüne Punkt and BKV.
The next edition of the PackTheFuture Award is planned for autumn 2018.
