Mondi has launched an alternative to paper bags with a free film barrier layer for the construction industry. The new IntegoBag simplifies recycling and is designed for the transport of construction materials.
The new paper sack guarantees the durability of the materials through protective barrier layers instead of a free plastic film. Mondi's FunctionalBarrier Paper provides the necessary moisture barrier to protect the contents and significantly reduces the PE content in its new solution.
Mondi uses its integrated value chain for the production of IntegoBag: from the production of the kraft paper from responsibly sourced fibres, to finishing with a functional barrier coating, through to bag packaging, the solution is Manufactured entirely in-house. The innovation provides a practical moisture barrier and simultaneously reduces plastic consumption by up to 50 per cent.
IntegoBag is recognised as a user-friendly and versatile solution for customers. It has the same strength during processing as a standard paper sack with free film, can be used on existing filling machines and is easy to print on. The bleached and unbleached bags are available in standard packaging sizes and are suitable for filling quantities of up to 25 kg.
The new solution has been certified as recyclable on the basis of tests carried out at Mondi's recycling laboratory in Frantschach in accordance with the CEPI v.2 test method and the evaluation protocol for the Recyclability of fibre-based packaging from 4evergreen were carried out. It achieved 19 out of 20 points in the Interseroh+ certification. This cycle-orientated packaging solution was also in line with the MAP2030 targets (Mondi Action Plan 2030) The company has developed a circular economy by developing reusable, recyclable or compostable solutions that keep materials in circulation and avoid waste.
