Paper cup from BVO receives plastic-free seal

The Flustix sustainability initiative recognises BVO cups as a „plastic-free product“. This is because the cups have no plastic coating and are made of paper. This means that the packaging expert from Jettingen in Baden-Württemberg can offer its corporate customers the first certified and tested plastic-free paper cups.

Every year, around 2.8 billion disposable cups for drinks to go are consumed in Germany, 40 per cent of which are made of pure plastic (UBA 2019). However, even the supposedly more sustainable disposable cardboard containers are problematic, as they usually have a plastic coating on the inside. Due to this plastic content, recycling the paper fibres is hardly possible and, if it is, uneconomical.

The Pure-Paper Cups from BVO International GmbH, disposable cups for hot drinks, cold drinks and ice cream cups, are now Flustix-certified and can now bear the „plastic-free product“ seal. As the labelled cups do not contain any plastic, they can be disposed of in waste paper and are therefore returned to a closed cycle instead of being incinerated.

„In our mobile society, which is still dominated by the pandemic, it has become even more difficult to do without to-go products. This makes the innovative achievement that the paper cups from BVO International GmbH do not require a plastic coating all the more pleasing. With the Flustix certification of the Pure Paper Cups, companies and consumers can now more easily opt for a plastic-free and therefore more environmentally friendly to-go cup variant“
Malte Biss, Managing Director Flustix

For Flustix, the Pure Paper Cups award also represents another important milestone in its mission to avoid plastic.
