
The purchase of the Steyrermühle paper mill by the Heinzel Group has been successfully completed. The company is taking over the mill from UPM and intends to turn it into a centre for sustainable packaging paper, renewable energy and wood processing.
In March 2023, ownership of a decommissioned graphic paper machine in Steyrermühl was transferred to the Heinzel Group and a conversion project there is well underway. Once the conversion is complete, which is planned for the second quarter of 2024, the machine will be up to 150,000 tonnes of brown and white kraft paper annually with low grammage, which is produced under the established Starkkraft brand of the Heinzel Group is marketed.
At the beginning of 2024, the Heinzel Group has now also taken over the Steyrermühl sawmill, a biomass and waste-fuelled power plant and other facilities. The company plans to turn Steyrermühl into a Supply centre for heat and renewable energy for the neighbouring Laakirchen paper mill and develop the region. The projects include the construction of a second power plant and a steam pipeline as well as the expansion of district heating.
